Virtual Mail Server

A complete mail service for your domain. This service provides unlimited mailboxes under your own domain name (see domain registration). You can use POP3, IMAP or webmail to access your mailboxes, and you have the option of virus scanning and spam filtering at the domain level. You may configure your email addresses as aliases or forward mail to an external mailbox.
Each Virtual Mail service has a maximum storage quota. The total size of all mail messages stored on the server must not exceed the quota.

Service Features

POP3, IMAP amd Webmail
POP3 is the most common way of accessing your Internet mail. New mail is stored on the server, and when you collect your mail it is downloaded to the inbox on your local machine.

Unlike POP3,  the IMAP and Webmail methods keep the inbox and private folders on the server. This has the advantage that you can then access all your new and existing email from anywhere in the world. This is most usefull for business users who wish to work from home or from their hotel room with the same access to their email as they have from the office.
When choosing to use IMAP, you must remember that there are limits set on the total storage space available to your domain on the Virtual Server. If the total space used by all your mailboxes exceeds the limit then new mail will be rejected. It is your responsibility to select the service most appropriate to your needs.

SMTP and Auth SMTP
When you send outgoing mail you use the SMTP protocol. In order to enable you to send outgoing email from anywhere in the world, we provide Authenticated SMTP on our mail servers. This requires a little additional set-up to be done on your email client (Outlook, Outlook Express, Mozilla mail, Eudora etc). Details can be found on our support site.

Virus Scanning
We offer an option for all incoming mail to be scanned for viruses and for all detected viruses to be removed. The virus database is updated 4 times daily, providing protection from new viruses almost as soon as they are identified. Virus scanning is a chargeable add-on service.

Spam Filtering
Our default policy is to provide strict spam filtering using "Realtime Black Hole" (RBL) lists. This policy can reduce the number of spam messages by up to 80%. The RBLs used contain lists of internet addresses (IP addresses) which have been identified by third parties as sources of spam email.
With all such lists, there is a risk that someone sending you mail may have been listed. If you do not want to have strict spam filtering, we offer an option to have an unfiltered service.

Customers may opt to have a secondary spam filtering service which can be applied to the whole domain, or to individual mailboxes. This service uses "spamassassin" to detect mark and optionally remove spam email from your mailbox. In its default configuration, Spamassassin detects about 85% of the remaining spam, giving and aggregate reduction of up to 96%.

All products and services are subject to our standard terms and conditions of business. Internet services are subject to our acceptable use policy.
